Are you looking for more ways to be involved in your community?

Do you enjoy art?  How about the North Carolina Museum of Art–are you a fan?  Would you like to promote the museum and the arts among young professionals in the Triangle?

We are looking for creative, energetic young professionals to join the NCMA Contemporaries Board of Directors for 2012. 

The Contemporaries are a group of 300 young professionals in the 20- to 40- something age range whose goal is to promote the North Carolina Museum of Art and increase membership by sponsoring lively social and educational fundraising events.

Board members meet monthly to guide the Contemporaries and plan events, such as fundraisers, cocktail parties, gallery tours, and more!  We would love for you get involved!  Board nominations are due Monday, January 30th, 2012.   Learn more amd complete the application here : SelfNominationForm

Join the Contemporaries for a docent-led tour of Rembrandt in America! We are offering two separate dates, December 2nd and 9th.

We’ll mingle starting at 6 pm at the West Building Wine Bar where wine, beer and non-alcoholic beverages are available for purchase. Be sure to arrive at the West Building lobby no later than 6:50 pm to meet the group.

At 7 pm, Museum docents will lead a guided tour of Rembrandt in America. After the tour join us at Iris for a late dinner, dessert, or glass of wine. The Museum’s East and West Buildings are open until 9 pm on Fridays.
Reservations are required in advance.

This is the only public screening in Raleigh and one of only two in the country.  Several artists featured in the film will be present.  Tickets are $2 for current Contemporaries members.  A reception after the screening will be held at The Point next door to the Rialto.  For more information and to RSVP, please see the link below:

The painting shows three musicians: a young woman playing a harpsichord, a man who is playing a lute, and a woman who is singing.  During the 17th century, musical gatherings such as the one represented in The Concert were not only a form of entertainment, but they were also accepted ways to promote social contact—specifically with the opposite sex.

Three works by Rembrandt were stolen, including his only painted seascape, “The Storm on the Sea of Galilee”.

First bit: Rembrandt’s works were during the period historians call the Dutch Golden Age.  In Dutch history, this was a period during the 17th century in which Dutch trade, military and science were considered some of the best in the world.
